History
In 1986 Frank Dominguez of
Chester, NJ along with Richard Briggs of Long Valley, NJ started Imperial
as an electrical contractor with five employees. Today, Imperial
Construction Group has evolved into one of the fastest-growing Hispanic
owned firms in the country. Imperial initially worked on residential
projects, but quickly transitioned into the commercial and institutional
arena, working on office, industrial, pharmaceutical and school facility
projects.
In 1991, the firm
became a general contractor and continued to self-perform electrical work
for the US Department of Defense, US Department of Transportation and
other federal and state government agencies.
One of the company's
turning points came in 1996 when it was hired to build several structures
for the U.S. Coast Guard Station Sandy Hook in New Jersey. While
performing the job, one of the firm's steel subcontractors defaulted. To
make up for wasted time, Imperial decided to enclose the structure in
plastic and work around the clock with heaters during the winter when
construction typically slows down. With that push, Imperial was able to
meet its deadline, which lead to additional projects from the same customer.
Imperial's growth has
accelerated dramatically over the past four years. During this period the
firm added construction management and design-build capabilities to its
roster of services, and sales have increased 350 %. End of year 2002
projections have the company managing over 500 million in projects
throughout the country.
